CVAP Week 3: 'Why Rest Matter'

Do you ever feel like you forgotten how many hours you sleep in a day and miss your bed badly? Yup, that's me currently. Before I go to bed, I want to share with you the most important topic that I learned in CVAP.

This week's session is meaningful to me and it's all about what mentioned in the title. That single word in the middle is I think, the hardest to do. How to do it?

Our trainer provided us infos that might help us along the way. She discussed about voice care which is very important. In all that I learned in this field, either someone's experience or from the internet, this is the most essential and should prioritize. This is an underrated topic that anyone should know.

She mentioned the do's and don'ts, warmups and especially, rest. I would like to focus on rest more since I've learned the two by searching. But first, let me share my experience while recording my previous auditions.

Before I do my recordings, I always bring water to keep me hydrated then set up my D.I.Y booth (which is our ref's box then put our sala's foam, because it's detachable, above me as my roof and to reduce the reverb). It always took me 20 minutes up to an hour without taking a break or seat, while standing in front of my microphone and talking. As time passed by, my feet and legs begun to numb, and my voice became somewhat hoarse. I persist to keep going even though I knew to myself that I'm exhausted. Still, I'm confident that only water can help me to keep going but this only led me to false belief.

To tell you the truth, I'm just TIRED. Though, my will and creativity are flowing like unending waters, my body can't function properly without rest.

And so, I did the voice rest that our trainer taught us. In every thirty minutes, I let myself rest for about fifteen minutes, no talking and just relaxing. And you know what? It absolutely worked! For real. After this, I continued my recording refreshed and back to energy again. It's funny to think that this is a valid reason to stop for a while and regain strength.

There's nothing wrong when you rest but there's something wrong when you avoid it. Don't force the body do the work all day long, let it relax and breathe.

Today, I learned a new lesson again. I say that we should appreciate rest more. Now, I need to go to my bed. It's already midnight.
